P&O cruise ship denied entry to NZ due to biosecurity concerns
Thousands of Australians on board a P&O cruise to New Zealand have been turned around by border control over environmental fears.
The almost two-week-long ‘Kiwi Adventure’ on board the Pacific Adventure left Sydney on Monday.
Biosecurity New Zealand’s northern regional commissioner Mike Inglis said there were “high-risk organisms” on the ship’s hull which could pose a risk to the country.
A planned hull cleaning exercise before the arrival to New Zealand was cancelled due to poor weather.
Many passengers are frustrated with the news as the ship reroutes to Tasmania on a three-day journey.
