Mongezi Thomas Stuurman was born on the 22nd of September 1995. He was born and raised in Chiawelo Ext 3 Fani Street under the house of his Granny. Mongezi was a loving, caring, joyful, and skillful soul. He grew up playing soccer, faded into fashion and went out to be known as ‘Mpura’.

Mpura Mpura: a name that originated from the creative background of Mongezi being a fashion designer and participating at the well renowned SA Fashion Week. He adapted the creativity of the thrift personality of the brand and used it to accommodate his love in music. If you listen closely to his music, he uses reference from the retro feel of Kwaito music and adapting it in the feel of ‘amapiano’. Mpura has had an impact in the way ‘amapiano’ sounds and its growth, as a producer/vocalist.
