Chance Encounter at the Blue Heron Bridge | Florida Scuba Diving

The Blue Heron Bridge is just a bridge, but it’s what lies below that you need to know about. Within the boundaries of this two acre underwater park are over 600 tons of artificial reef. Due to the bridge’s close proximity to the Palm Beach Inlet, lots of fresh seawater pass through the area carrying vital nutrients for marine life.

Unlike the beaches, this area is protected by barrier islands which create a lagoon effect, affording safe habitat for marine life and calm waters for the two legged visitors. It’s a big deal because of how many cool things you can see, and how easy it is to do so.

A big thanks to Jeff Nelson for allowing us to interview him and for his expertise on this awesome destination. He and the staff at Force E, a dive shop located nearby the bridge, can help ensure you have everything you need for a great trip. They also have night dive permits twice a month (for free), so don't miss that if you want to go under after dark.

We also want to thank Chelsea Bennice a marine biologist, known as "Octo Girl". Some of her information posted on Facebook allowed us to accurately identify and sound a little credible about the Atlantic Longarm Octopus that we came upon during the dive.
