In this video I am building an upgraded jigsaw guide track with an adjustable crosscut guide for long straight cuts and crosscuts. I combined my previous jigsaw builds into this one, creating an upgraded version of a jigsaw guide - https://youtu.be/ba3ja1knc7w , and jigsaw guide track https://youtu.be/UOUWm4mykt4 . The build lets you cut straight and precise cuts. For accuracy you can track your cuts using sight holes. The design of the guide also lets you clamp the jig to a bench and also fix the the (cut) piece while cutting. When building a crosscut guide there is a lot of precision needed to secure 90 degrees. Thus I created an adjustable crosscut guide that lets you make minor adjustments to make sure you cut at 90 degrees.
HOW TO MAKE A JIGSAW GUIDE TRACK | ADJUSTABLE JIGSAW CROSSCUT GUIDE
I started out by designing and cutting the plywood base for the jigsaw guide. Made a preparation of the adjustable guide by cutting a T slot in the base. Cut the aluminium guide rails and measured the space between them so that the jigsaw fits in perfectly (including the jigsaw shoe). Fixed the rails to the plywood base using a double sided tape, screws and washers. After that I drilled multiple sight holes (⌀2cm) in the center line to be able to see and follow the cut line precisely. Cut the slot and attached the crosscut guide using a pivoting bolt and wing nuts. At the end I attached a handle for better and easier manipulation.
Tips:
- Make the preparations for the crosscut guide before you fix the guide rails
- Fix the first guide rail and then tweak and adjust the second one once the jigsaw is in place
- Drill in the sight holes before you cut the slot
