Dr Hook ~ When You're In Love With A Beautiful Woman 1979 Disco Purrfection Version

Dr Hook is a band, and not the name of of the lead singer. The most visible member is Ray Sawyer, with the famous eye patch he started wearing after losing an eye from a serious car accident in 1967, but he is not the lead singer. The lead singer is actually the bassist, Dennis Locorriere. The band name "Dr Hook & The Medicine Show" actually was a sly reference to drugs and to Ray Sawyer compared to the character of Captain Hook, who lost a hand and not an eye. Working the Jersey shores for a few years, the band gained a following, eventually garnering a movie soundtrack appearance courtesy of Shel Silverstein. That under their belt, they were signed to CBS Records and released their first LP "Doctor Hook". "Sylvia's Mother" a bittersweet weeper sold well and peaked at #5 in 1972. Their next single "On the Cover of The Rolling Stone" was an irreverent song that actually landed them on the cover of the Rolling Stone in 1973! It was a smooth transition to radio popularity with the band finding themselves with hits like "A Little Bit More", "Only Sixteen" from 1976 and then "Sharing The Night Together" in 1978. Their next single was the disco flavored "When You're In Love With A Beautiful Woman" from the summer of 1979 was their fourth #6 hit.
