American Prairie Reserve: Tracking curlews

Long-billed curlews are the largest shorebirds in North America. At the American Prairie Reserve, Smithsonian ecologists are equipping curlews with GPS trackers to learn more about their movements. This "travel log" of data will serve as a road map for conservationists to help protect the habitats and resources that curlews need at every place they visit on their annual journeys—from the coast to their summer breeding grounds in the grasslands of Montana. #FieldInFocus #Conservation
