Explore Hilton Head Island | HGTV Dream Home 2020

Every year, 2 million visitors flock to this small town on the South Carolina coast called Hilton Head Island. J. Picken's takes viewers on an exploration through this picturesque island town.

On the tour, we speak to Hannah Horn, Communications Manager at the Hilton Head Island Chamber of Commerce and she gives us a rundown of some of the history, island facts and great things to do:

Hilton Head Island is a beautiful place that is 55 square miles. It has 12 miles of white sandy beaches. It's a great place to live, play and work. There are 24 golf courses, around a dozen marinas, the beautiful Harbour Town Lighthouse and pier looking over the Calibogue Sound. The Sea Pines Resort is beautiful, there are 52 acres of land and wildlife. There are two iconic places inside of Sea Pines, first is Coligny Beach Park with direct beach access. There's also the Salty Dog Area and it's named after a Salty Dog named Jake.

From here, the viewers are taken to the Salty Dog Cafe where a little more history on Jake the Salty Dog is given. We also learn about the best items at the Salty Dog Cafe including the Shrimp Salad with Local Shrimp. They are well known for the hushpuppies as well.

After the Salty Dog Café, we spend some time on an activity that is very popular on the island, Golf. The viewers are taken to one of the most iconic, Harbour Town Links. It's a staple on the PGA Tour and known for its iconic lighthouse beyond the 18th hole.

After golf, we finish up with a tour of the Harbour Town Lighthouse. Constructed in 1969, standing 90-feet tall, this candy striped lighthouse has been a Hilton Head landmark for over 5 decades.

Lighthouse Keeper, Nadia Wagner takes us on a journey through the lighthouse and some of the history for the lighthouse and the area.
