Power steering fluid flush - Mitsubishi Pajero / Montero / Shogun
Power steering fluid gets neglected because it's not listed on most Mitsubishi service schedules. But it still breaks down over time, especially with inner-city driving.
Make sure you choose the right fluid for your power steering. Penrite recommends Dex-III mineral or ATF FS for the power steering on the Pajero, but this is different to the ATF LV they recommend for the transmission. So don't just grab whatever you used for the transmission and assume it'll be OK for the power steering like I did!
Flushing out your old dirty fluid and replacing it with clean stuff isn't a long job, and should be done every ~100,000kms.
Tools needed:
* Bull-nosed pliers
* About 2m of clear plastic hose with internal diameter ~16mm
* About 2L of new transmission / power steering fluid - I used Penrite ATF LV
* A 2L waste oil container / milk bottle / juice bottle
* A couple of jacks to lift both front wheels off the ground
Contents:
0:00 - Setup
2:52 - Flushing the old fluid by hand
4:51 - Flushing the old fluid with the engine
6:45 - Putting everything back together
