For the experiment, seed material from the taiga was brought in 2016.

Spring 2020 turned out to be very busy, but it is impossible to postpone the work with potato seeds for a year.
Therefore, although there were more worries in the breeding laboratory, Agafya Lykova's potatoes were planted.

“Agafya Lykova’s potatoes are unlikely to appear on store shelves,” explains Andrei Churakov, head of the selection laboratory at the Krasnoyarsk Agrarian University. - Firstly, her eyes are deep: modern buyers do not like this, and both large and small grows in the nest. But a new variety may be brought out in a few years.

This is not just a potato field - an experimental plot: doctors and candidates of sciences bend their backs here all summer.
After treatment, minitubers were grown under laboratory conditions - they are almost sterile.

Scientists revitalized minitubers, planted on June 6. Nothing grew in mid-August.
The revitalized potatoes from Agafya Lykova did not even bloom this summer.

In addition to Agafya Lykova's potatoes, breeders grow 30 varieties.
Each new variety is 10 years of hard work and observation.
But the famous hermit's potatoes baffled scientists.
But they don't despair. They are going to continue studying.
