Democrat Jamaal Bowman pleads guilty over alarm stunt
New York Congressman Jamaal Bowman has pleaded guilty on Thursday after being charged with falsely triggering a fire alarm in a House office building.
The incident occurred on September 30 when House Democrats were attempting to delay a vote to fund the government ahead of a midnight deadline.
Mr Bowman must pay a $1,000 fine and write an apology letter to the US Capitol Police.
Former White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney recalled the comments of a former Chair of the Democratic National Committee who said of Bowman, “Being an idiot is not a defence… This guy is in a lot of trouble.”
“It may come back to haunt him when he is next re-elected ,” Mr Mulvaney told Sky News Australia host James Morrow.
