The Top scale is called the vernier scale, and is in 0.001" (thousandths of an inch). They are often labeled 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 thousanths of an inch.

The middle or bottom scale, not getting mixed up with vernier calipers that also have metric or millimeter scale, is called the main scale. The labeled increments are in 10th's of an inch. 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, & 9 tenth's of an inch.

The lines in the middle of of the main scale are increments of 25 thousandths of an inch (0.025").

0, 0.025, 0.050, 0.075, 0.125, 0.150, 0.175, 0.225, 0.250, 0.275, etc.

To get the value of a vernier caliper simply find the zero line on the vernier scale, and see what line it falls after, on the main scale.

In the video, the zero line on the top vernier scale is after the 0.125" line on the middle main scale.

In the video, the first line on the top vernier scale that come in direct line with a line on the middle main scale is the 0.009" line on the top vernier scale.

Knowing that, we add 0.125" from the main scale with 0.009" from the top vernier scale. We get 0.125 + 0.009 = 0.134" or One hundred and thirty four thousandths of an inch as our reading.
