1986 TOYOTA Car Restoration | RESTORE CAR 34 YEARS OLD | Rescued in Mexico| STUNNING TRANSFORMATION! We traveled 2,483 miles to Guatemala and back to Los Angeles.
We rescued and rebuilt our 1986 Toyota 4Runner that had been sitting and rusting in Playa Del Carmen Mexico for 5 years. There's so much humidity and salt in the air that the tires were rusted solid to the wheel hubs. Rebuilding the truck was easy but trying to get it out of Mexico and back to the USA was the hard part. Since the Travel permit for the truck had expired we had to get a special permit from Mexico City just so we could drive it to the nearest border in Guatemala. Since the car sat rusting for 5 years all the brakes were shot, all the brake lines were rotted and the distributor was rusted solid just to name a few. So while driving it to the Guatemalan border we had to stop at serval garages to have it fixed. For a large part of the Journey, we didn't have brakes, only the emergency brake. On our way back from Guatemala the head gasket blew in Veracruz. We then had to tow it to Guanajuato, Mx where we were having the truck restored by a mechanic. Towing a truck in Mexico is very hard to get a permit for and the Police harassed us constantly thinking we were drug smugglers. It was quite an adventure.
