日語文學選讀精選片段 (Reading of the Literature in Japanese Highlights w/ Eng Sub)

This course looks at Japanese language literature and modern Japanese literature. It is hoped that students can learn more about the modernization in the period of Japanese imperialism and colonialism, or, in other words, the history of militarism. At the same time, it is hoped that students will understand the relationship between modern Japanese literature and the foundation of the nation state. Therefore, this course begins by introducing three Japanese language writers in Taiwan: Yang Kui, Zhou Jinbo, and Zhang Hezhou. By way of comparison, we then look at modern Japanese writers. We first begin Sato Haruo to see how Japan’s romanticism required an exotic or colonial imagination. Next, we look at Kenji Miyazawa to learn the pursuit of idealism and the dangers of essentialism. Third, we look at Toson Shimazaki to learn modern Japanese family’s problems. Fourth, we look at Soseki Natsume to learn the internal psychology of modern Japanese. Fifth, we look at Shigeharu Nakano to explore Japanese proletarian literature and the colonial imagination. Finally, we look at Osamu Dazai to explore the concept and issues related to “postwar.”

本課程將日據時期殖民地文學裡面的日語作品跟日本現代作家的作品放在一起學習。希望同學們進一步了解日本於帝國主義時期的現代化，及後來陷入到殖民地主義，也就是軍國主義的這個歷史。同時，也希望同學們了解近現代日本文學對國民國家的成立有如何的關聯。因此，這門課以介紹楊逵、周金波、張赫宙這三位殖民地日語文學的作家開始。從橫、豎兩個軸的研究，然後講到日本現代作家；譬如，先以佐藤春夫來講浪漫主義，日本的浪漫主義是一定需要異國情趣，要不然是殖民地的想像；第二個是以宮澤賢治來講近現代日本追求獻身的一種理想主義的狀態，以及他顯露出的一種本質主義的危險；第三位是以島崎藤村來講現代日本家庭的問題；接下來是以夏目漱石來講日本近代人的一種自我觀念和內在心理的問題；然後以中野重治來講日本普羅文學跟想像殖民地的問題。最後則以太宰治來講戰後這個概念跟戰後文學的一些問題。
