Rossini-Liszt - William Tell Overture (Guillaume Tell) S.552 - Kemal Gekić Piano

Rossini composed the William Tell opera in 1829 and Liszt transcribed the overture for piano in 1838. It was published in 1842 and Liszt performed it many times in concert.

It begins with the "Prelude, Dawn," depicting a sunrise in the Swiss Alps, and proceeds to the famous "Storm" section. After the storm is the "Ranz des Vaches" which is a very calm and recognizable shepherd's song. The overture culminates with the infamous march "Finale" which begins about 9:29 into my video.

Kemal Gekić (b. 1962) was born in what is now Croatia and is currently a Professor of Piano Performance at Florida International University in Miami. This is an incredible performance which I feel would be extremely difficult to top.
