Which Elgato Audio Interface is Right For You? Wave XLR vs. XLR Dock

Whether you already own a Stream Deck Plus and you're deciding between the Wave XLR and the XLR Dock, or you don't have a Stream Deck Plus yet and you're wondering if you should grab the combo kit — I cover both scenarios. I own both interfaces and I'll show you exactly what you're getting with each one so you can make the right call.

Here's what I found: the specs are identical. Both the Wave XLR MK.2 and the XLR Dock MK.2 run 80dB of clean gain, 48V phantom power, Clipguard 2.0, the Wave FX Processor with onboard DSP effects, and full Wave Link 3.0 integration. The software is the same — low-cut filter, expander, compressor, all of it. There's no audio difference. What changes is the form factor, the desk space, and the price.

If you have a small desk, the XLR Dock might be the smarter move. It replaces the standard Stream Deck Plus stand — no extra device on the desk, no extra USB cable. I used to run a Rode Pro with 55dB of gain taking up a ton of desk space. This setup freed all of that up and gave me 80dB of gain in a much smaller footprint.

The install takes about two minutes. Two Phillips screws out, line up the USB-C, push it in, screw it back down. Your Stream Deck Plus profile loads automatically — you don't lose anything.
