The last few months have certainly been challenging for many people around the world. I was moved to write this "lament" as an emotional response to many of recent events, such as the global pandemic that killed thousands, and the most recent acts of police brutality that awoke our ongoing social unrest and shed light on racial injustice. 2020 has been a year of reflection, anger, wailing, grief, mourning, and prayer. In this new composition I tried to explore all these themes, and thanks to the heartwrenchingly beautiful tone of Roland Gjernes's playing, the piece took a more profound turn. The listener is encouraged to experience this piece attentively, preferably in a dark room late at night. (Thanks to Adam Friedman for mastering!)
