Payments in Europe

As things currently stand, many of the card, online and mobile payments made in Europe are handled via the technology platforms of global providers and card systems. While the continent is home to successful payment systems of its own – Germany’s girocard scheme, for instance – these are often only national in scope. Would it not therefore make sense if consumers had a pan-European way of making payments both in store and online that was convenient, secure and efficient?
