Founded in 1838, Duke is one of the nation’s leading academic institutions, both academically and athletically. A member of North Carolina’s research triangle, Duke has many opportunities for students who wish to partake in independent study. These features make Duke one of the most competitive universities in the United States.

Today, I'll highlight some aspects of Duke's campus you may wish to consider as you begin your college application. Then, we'll discuss how to make the biggest impression in the application essays.

One clarification: the essay doesn’t explicitly ask whether you’ve taken a tour, but it’s a chance to discuss if you have and whether anything you’ve seen appeals to you. You could also reference that you've undertaken a virtual tour should you conduct an interview with Duke.
