Edventure Travel - Preparing for and Celebrating Tet - Vietnam’s New Year

Tet, the Vietnamese New Year, marks the most significant celebration in Vietnam’s cultural calendar. Celebrated according to the lunar calendar, Tet usually falls in late January or early February and heralds the arrival of spring. It is a time dedicated to family reunions, commemorating ancestors, and ushering in a fresh start for the new year.

During Tet, traditional customs and rituals play a central role. Homes are meticulously cleaned and adorned with vibrant decorations to welcome prosperity and ward off bad luck. Families prepare and share special dishes such as bánh chưng and bánh tét, while community members visit temples and ancestral graves to offer prayers, ensuring that the bonds of heritage and respect are maintained.

The festive spirit of Tet is further enhanced by public celebrations featuring traditional music, dragon dances, and fireworks. This blend of solemnity and jubilation reflects the essence of Tet—a balance between the remembrance of the past and the optimistic anticipation of the future.

Edventure Travel filmed the preparations for Tet in the Mekong Delta and Ho Chi Minh City, highlighting the cultural significance of this festive season. Enjoy.
