THAILAND PHUKET - Food and what to do.

Allan Neves describes the food and life in Phuket, Thailand.

Thailand is one of the most amazing and breathtaking places on earth. Known for its crystal clear beaches, impressive temples and spirtual monuments, it is one of the world’s preferred destinations for travelers. As you arrive in Thailand, you will encounter a solid infrastructure, with well designed airports and friendly service. Comfortable busses will transfer you to your resort and open style busses will drive you around the island. Scooters are also an option and can be rented everywhere.

With its southwestern Chinese roots, this is the world's 50th largest country, and the 22nd-most-populous place on earth.

Most tourists visit Phuket, for 3 simple reasons: the awesome beaches, the friendly people, and of course the fresh food!
Fresh food can be found in every corner. There is an array of street barbecues where food is prepared over real charcoal fire! The smell is mouth-watering and the taste is simply delicious. Hundreds of customers are served daily and simplicity is the best seasoning!

Phuket is an island in the Andaman Sea and has Thailand’s most popular crystal clear beaches. Karon Beach is on the west coast of Phuket. The beach is a popular destination and it has many high-end seaside resorts,
spas and restaurants that host visitors from all over the world.

Many tourists choose the Woraburi Phuket resort for its closeness to the ocean breath taking swimming pool and its “all-you-can-eat” breakfast buffet. All guests enjoy a variety of asian and western dishes. There is even an authentic Thai chef, cooking their traditional fresh duck soup. The dish is prepared to order and once ready the aroma is unmistakably pleasant.

There are many activities to enjoy in Phuket. From sailing, to parasailing. Many just enjoy the waves, whereas others opt to play beach volleyball.

The crystalline waters are a true invitation to snorkeling.

During summer time, the water temperature is pleasantly warm, making it simply perfect to explore the ocean. Phuket has several shops and busy markets. But if you plan on coming to visit, bring cash, because credit cards, are rarely accepted here. If you are looking for a more refined dining experience, in a place that luckily “does” accept credit cards, the Amber Restaurant is your choice. You can savor exquisite dishes, such as traditional thai soups, including a delicious Tom-ka-goon, made with spicy coconut milk and local shrimp or try this amazing grilled squid.

For the steamy-hot summer nights, there is nothing like a freshly made drink! In Phuket you will sure encounter polite and generous bar tenders, that will prepare your drinks to perfection. There are also many happening nightclubs and bars everywhere in the island. You can hear live music in places such as the Kennies Aussie Bar, submerge your feet in a fish spa, where this “controversial procedure” is conveniently available in every corner or you can even walk among the infamous, yet “friendly street girls”!

The word “Thai” means “free man”, and here you can feel in the air,
that nature, people and even animals, seem to get along pretty well.
What is known today as The Kingdom of Thailand, was once called:
Siam!

The deep spiritual and religious influence, is easily observed everywhere.
Countless worship statues, decorate the island.
You can visit impressive structures, such as the Market Temple,
where real Monks can be seen wondering around this sacred area.

The official religion in the region, is Theravada Buddhism,
and is practiced by more than 95% of the population. Karon, has also has a unique iconic site. The famous Dragon Statue!
It sits right on the beach and its also know as the Golden Naga Statue!
This monument is mesmerizing and is very popular among visitors.
Another icon here, is the elephant, which is Thailand's national symbol.
It is estimated that during the 1800’s, there were over 100,000 domesticated elephants in Thailand, but today, the population has dropped to no more than 2,000 of them. In the last 20 years, there has been an effort to enhance the well being of the remaining elephants in the area. At Kokchang Safari, retired elephants get a second chance in life. They are well taken care by the staff, and throughout the day are hand-fed by visitors.

Thailand is a must see place, and definitely a destination, that will undoubtedly create unforgettable memories.
