Future Care: putting the needs of the next generations first / Maddy Harland / Permaculture Magazine

What distinguishes permaculture from other holistic design or growing methods is that it aims to create more than a system of sustainable agriculture or organic horticulture; it uses (eco) systems thinking to explore the drivers and ideas behind more lasting, permanent cultures.

Maddy Harland suggests that we need to shift our thinking towards 7 generational thinking and decision-making – honouring the wisdom and legacy of the Law of the Iroquois and other indigenous and traditional cultures – in order to design regenerative permanent cultures. Our emphasis cannot just be about human well being but needs to embrace all species on planet Earth.
