SRI LANKA TRAVEL GUIDE - WHAT TO SEE, TRY & DO IN 5 DAYS

Hey guys! I'm back with a Sri Lanka tour guide vlog and my top tips and recommendations for you. Please read the description.

Hope you all had a wonderful Easter. I know this is a very weird time for all of us but this is an experience that will shape and change the rest of our lives. The things we took for granted, we will cherish and consider as blessings, because they are and should be considered as such.

I am currently stuck in London, a trip that was supposed to be just 3 weeks long now turned into a 2 month trip and I’m just missing JD, Astro and Dubai so much. I am hoping that my return home will be early next month and I will definitely film new content for you once I’m back. I already have some ideas!

Ok, now as for the important stuff. Sri Lanka has always been on my bucket list and I’m so happy to have visited it as my first holiday destination this year (hopefully not last!). We spent there 5 days including travel time, so it was a very short trip but we tried to make the most of it. That is why I wanted to share with you some of the food/activities recommendations, as well as the hotels we stayed at.

So here’s my list of recommendations below.

Our itinerary was pretty tight considering the time we had. However we landed in the morning and this is what we did:

Day 1. Airport - Kandy (We stopped for White Water Rafting and at the Elephant Sanctuary on the way to Kandy)
Day 2. Kandy - Nuwara Eliya - Ella. (In the morning we went to the Buddha Statue in Kandy. On the way to Nuwara Eliya we stopped at a tea Glenloch Tea Factory. Then we took scenic the train ride from Nuwara Eliya to Ella).
Day 3. Ella - Mirissa. (In Ella we went on the zip line as well as visited the famous Nine Arch Bridge).
Day 4. Mirissa - Galle. (We had a nice day in Mirissa, where we went to InstaFamous location - Coconut Tree Hill and finished the day surfing on the beach and enjoying the sun). In the evening we left for Galle.
Day 5. On the last day we lounged by the pool and went for a massage. We had really nice food at the Sugar Bistro and Wine Bar. Highly recommend this place!

TRANSPORTATION

We highly suggest to rent a car and a driver from the airport. This is what we did and it was the cheapest option (as the drivers that I contacted in advance wanted to charge double). They do a custom itinerary for you and it makes your holiday stress free. Also while you’re at the airport withdraw some cash to have with you as the ATM’s are not readily available. And you’ll need cash for tipping, tickets etc.

FOOD

Food in Sri Lanka is generally quite spicy, lots of pineapple, coconut and chicken, roti bread and dhal.

My must try recommendations:

- Banana Roti (dessert)
- Sri Lanka Kottu Roti (very filling, I recommend one portion for two people)
- Sri Lanka Crab Curry (one of my favorites but very messy)
- Any type of freshly caught fish

ACTIVITIES

- White Water Rafting was super fun and they have different levels!
- I do not encourage or recommend visiting Elephants no matter how tempting it might be. What we saw was very devastating.
- I highly recommend the Ziplining in Ella, it’s a lot of fun (Just if you have a GoPro on your helmet, don’t hold your hands up and block the view like I did haha)
- I also do NOT support nor encourage Whale Watching as it must be traumatizing for these animals to be surrounded by huge boats daily.
- Pack a lot of hand sanitizers, snacks and sun protection just to be safe and comfortable throughout your trip.

We didn’t have a chance to go to to Sigiriya but if you do, stop to Dambulla Royal Cave Temple. It looks incredible.
