Inspirational Success Story of Raghunandan Saran in hindi.Born: Raghunandan Saran was born into a wealthy family in Delhi, even before India acquired her independence.Family: His father Pyare Lal was famous for the array of cars he had owned. Pyare Lal was born into a merchant family in ghaziabad. He own and established dealerships and workshops in Lahore and Rawalpindi (both now in Pakistan) for Austin cars.Education: He was educated at St. Stephen’s College and then went to Cambridge University for his further studies.Freedom Struggle : But as soon as he came back, he decided abandon all his worldly benefits to join the Freedom Struggle. He is said have had a strong bond with Jawaharlal Nehru with whom in many occasions he has gone to jail with.Ashok Motors: After the Indian Independence, Nehru advised Saran that what India needed now was a strong industrial backing. He requested Saran to go back and strengthen his family business. This made Saran to replant himself from politics to his family empire. Instead of car dealerships, Saran decided that he should start car manufacturing itself. He successfully negotiated with Austin Motors Ltd. Ashok Motors was incorporated in 1948 as a company to assemble and manufacture Austin cars from England, and the company was named after the founder's only son Ashok Saran. The Company was engaged in assembly and distribution of Austin A40 passenger cars in India.Ashok Leyland : But Saran soon realised that what Indian actually needed was buses and trucks. This made Saran to conduct joint operations with a British bus and truck company Leyland Motors Limited. He had been negotiating with Leyland Motors of England for assembly of commercial vehicles as he envisioned commercial vehicle were more in need at that time than were passenger cars. The company later under Madras State Government and other shareholders finalised for an investment and technology partner and thus Leyland Motors joined in 1954 with equity participation, changing the name of the company to Ashok Leyland. Ashok Leyland then started manufacturing commercial vehicles. Under Leyland's management with British expatriate and Indian executives the company grew in strength to become one of India's foremost commercial vehicle manufacturers. In 1983, a Britain based Indian company Hinduja Group bought Ashok-Leyland. And this only kick-started the company to even bigger achievements. Th e company, which only had 252 workers in the beginning, now has 15,812 workers. Th eir revenue became rupees 12,711 crores annually.
