Dig deeper into the incredible story behind one of the very first manufacturers to produce cars – Panhard. Working alongside Levassor, and developing cars throughout the latter half of the 19th century, Panhard & Levassor were enormous contributors to automotive design, setting many of the standards that we still use today in modern automobile design.
This YouTube video will take you through the whole history of Panhard’s automotive production history, including the revolutionary early models built in the 1890s (which were the first to utilize the now widely accepted front-engine/rear-wheel drive layout), and how their designs not only dominated the early days of auto racing, but also were instrumental in developing many of the modern automotive features used today.
Next we will take a look at the incredibly luxurious and technically advanced interwar Panhard models of the 1930s which utilized beautiful streamline designs, then move into how Panhard was able to reinvent itself following WWII by offering consumers the lightweight and fuel-efficient Dyna series of vehicles, and of course, the PL 17.
Lastly, we’ll review Panhard’s final chapter as a manufacturer of passenger vehicles in the 1960s, with the introduction of the Panhard 24, before discontinuing passenger vehicle production shortly thereafter (as a result of being acquired by Citroën).
