Is your business location appealing to your clients’ 5 senses - Smell, Taste, Sound, Sight and Touch?

SOUND ~ There’s nothing like good music and conversation to bring us together, especially in Black Beauty Salons and Barbershops.

How does your shop SOUND? We have a waterfall at Locks4Ever, but we always have music going. Our clients enjoy gospel, jazz and R&B music genres the most.

When you consider the sound of your shop appealing to clients, you also need to take into consideration the speakers, is this sound quality nice? It’s great to have a Bose or Sonos system, but if not, just get yourself a nice little portable speaker and Bluetooth your music. Also, what’s coming out of those speakers? If you have an older more mature client base, they probably are not interested in listening to raunchy/gangsta rap while they are being serviced. At the same time, if you have a very young client base, Motown and the Blues are not going to enhance their experience! Whatever the personality and culture of your shop, with regard to how it sounds, make sure that it ENHANCES your clients’ experience. Just as a final note, invest in a streaming music plan that does not play commercials (or playlists). Allow your clients to listen to commercial free streaming . . . Your clients’ enjoyment is worth it!!

The same advice would apply to shops that prefer to have TV on during hours of operation. Be mindful of the program content and volume settings. We have television available, but very rarely do we use it. The policy in our shop is if a client or a consultant would like to watch television, it must be watched on mute with captions. We like to have this to offer to our clients, especially during installations. Fortunately, most people have their own programming selections on their devices.
