This is a story about an old feral cat who got a second chance, and the heroic humans who dared to love him.

580 days ago, we trapped an old feral cat named Stashy. Tests showed his kidneys had almost failed, and that he had been living in unrelenting pain from 15 abscessed teeth.

He was a tough old guy, full of fight… and he made it clear he wanted to live despite everything he had been through. As is our way, we felt he deserved a chance to experience comfort and freedom from pain in his sunset months, so we fixed his teeth and began aggressive treatment to stabilize his kidneys. We were astonished when his quality of life improved so much that we were able to send him to a sunset foster home, where we all hoped he would be able to enjoy a few good months.

Stashy spent an incredible 525 days at LBJHQ, surrounded by love, joy, comfort and the very best medical care. He had a human family who doted on him. They opened their hearts to him, without reservation, knowing the end of his journey would bring heartbreak. They gave him a new life, erased the hardships he had endured before he was rescued, and made sure he did not have to suffer when it was time to say goodbye.

We are SO grateful to Kim, Keith and Momsies for taking Stashy in and giving him the life he always deserved, despite his challenges, despite knowing their hearts would be broken. Please hold them in your hearts today as they deal with his loss.

- his butterfly toy and laser pointer
- he would only eat with company
- preferred his water chilled from a fountain
- sunny spots to sleep in were his favourite
- loved keeping me running constantly every time he called and that was a lot ❤️
