Amazon MGM has acquired the worldwide rights to the action film Beekeeper 2 for more than $50 million. Jason Statham will reprise his lead role, while Timo Tjahjanto (Nobody 2) will direct. Filming is set to begin this fall.
The first movie followed a retired black-ops agent who returns to action after his kind-hearted landlady falls victim to a phishing scam that steals millions from her charity. The film grossed $163 million globally and was a major hit.
The sequel will be produced by Jason Statham (Punch Palace Productions), Chris Long (Long Shot Productions), and Kurt Wimmer. Amazon MGM plans a theatrical release in key markets worldwide.
