Squier TWENTY'21 CS jazz bass, sound demo: Bridge pickup + tone up
Somewhere in january, I ordered the Squier 60's Classic Vibe jazz bass (the Daphne Blue version) and I immediately fell in love with the versatility of the bass, factory made. But after playing for a while, I wanted to do something completely diffrent, something I haven't done every before.
I was dying to get this bass a new layer of paint (dark turqoise) and manually reliced, as well as the best possible hardware upgrade. After weeks spending photoshopping the bass I'd like, I sent the pictures to a good guy nearby. He told me upfront that relicing would be extremely difficult due to polyurethane finish.. he could have done the job he said, but told me to keep in mind that it probably wouldn't look the way I'd like the bass to be. Soon after, I decided to clear my thoughts about the relic finish and made up something completely different.
Once again, I opened up photoshop and loaded a white bass into the project and painted the headstock with it, as well as I coated the hardware gold. I took the project back to the good guy, and he immediately said he was hyped by this project really bad and couldn't wait to lay his hands on it. I told him what I'd like in terms of the bridge, tuners and pickups.
- Schaller bridge
- Regular tuners
- Fender CS60, Bartolini B-Axis, Seymour Duncan Quarterpound
Well.. this is what he came up with:
- Gold, Omega Badass II bridge
- " " Fender tuners
- " " Neck pickup cover
- " " Controle plate
- " " Neck plate
- " " Straplocks
- New isolation coating/groundcoating to reduce humming
- New pods and input + wiring
- Custom made (hand wounded) pickups after discussing type of sound, double isolated on the inside to reduce even more humming
The bass is finally done in it's new state: Olympic white (body and headstock) with golden hardware and custom made pickups. I call this bass the "Squier Super '21 jazz bass", born in 2021. Hope you like the bass it's journey and the final product. For anyone who has any question regarding to the process, everything was done in the Netherlands.
- Robert Tappel: Hardware + pickups upgrade
- Stefan de Roo: New body + headstock finish
This recording was made with a Clarett 8pre audio interface, straight into Studio One 5 with a bit of dynamic compression.
