IBM 9121 Mainframe CPU Teardown, TCM & MCM ES/9000
Teardown of an IBM 9221 TCM out of an IBM Enterprise Server 9000. With original IBM tec papers we have a closer look at this brilliant piece of technology from 1991. Impressive massive ceramic substrate and outstanding engineered cooling system. This MCM or Multi Chip Modules are the one of the most beautiful chips any collector can have in his collection for displaying. Populated with cmos and bipolar technology and up to 121 dies this processor is a real monster in consuming energy. With 2272 pins on the bottom and 2 million vias in 63 ceramic layers the package itself is already an outstanding part of technology and development. Enjoy this video ;-)
