I-77 North - Charlotte - ALL Express Lanes OPEN - North Carolina - Highway Drive

Real time drive from of I-77 northbound from the South Carolina border through Charlotte and the Lake Norman towns of Huntersville, Mooresville, Cornelius, and Davidson. Includes a look at the recently opened Express Lanes along the highway.

I-77 south of Uptown Charlotte to the South Carolina border is the busiest stretch of interstate in North Carolina. Despite this, the segment only has 6 lanes of travel capacity. Due to the heavy development surrounding the highway and the lack of space for expansion, widening this segment is could possibly make it the most costly project ever implemented by the NCDOT. However NCDOT does plan to expand this area to at least 10 lanes sometime in the 2020s using some type of toll or express lane system for the new lanes.

Also of note is the interchange with 485 in south Charlotte near the beginning of the video. To date it is the only multi-stack interchange in the State of North Carolina.
