A chance encounter with her school friend on a train leads Ruth Selwyn to make this amazing documentary. After many years of lost contact, Ruth is amazed to discover that her old friend Helen has a rare condition called Dissociative Identity Disorder, more commonly known as Multiple Personality Disorder. Ruth follows Helen and her seven different personalities over a period of months to explore how she copes with life and to investigate what exactly has happened to her friend. We see Helen ‘switching’ between her various personas and seek the views of different psychology camps as to why she suffers from this rare condition.
