What happens when a video game accidentally confronts you with the meaning of life?

After dozens of hours exploring Ancient Greece in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, clearing forts, hunting mercenaries, and chasing question marks across the map, I hit a strange moment of burnout. The grind suddenly felt… pointless.

And that’s when I realized something.

Odyssey had quietly recreated one of the oldest philosophical metaphors in history: The Myth of Sisyphus.

In this video, we explore how the endless gameplay loops of Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey mirror existentialist ideas about meaning, struggle, and human purpose. Drawing from the philosophy of Albert Camus, we’ll look at how embracing the absurd—rather than escaping it—can completely change the way we approach games, work, and even life itself.

Sometimes the boulder doesn’t disappear.
