When we move here, we think — new country, new people, new life… making friends should just happen naturally, right?

But reality hits differently.

It’s not that people are rude or unfriendly. In fact, most people here are polite, warm, and easy to talk to. You’ll have good conversations, laughs, even plans sometimes…

But turning that into a deep friendship? That’s where it gets hard.

One big reason is — most people already have their circles.
Friends from school, uni, work… relationships built over years. So even if they like you, there’s not always space for something new to grow quickly.

And then there’s adult life.
Work, routines, responsibilities… everyone is busy. Friendship here isn’t spontaneous — it’s scheduled, and consistency matters more than intensity.

Also, something most of us don’t realise:
One coffee, one hangout… doesn’t build a friendship.
Real bonds take time, repeated effort, and shared experiences.

That’s why many migrants end up becoming closest to other migrants —
because you’re all in the same phase of rebuilding life from scratch.

But here’s the important part 👇

It’s not rejection.
It’s just how life is structured here.

If you keep showing up, stay consistent, and find the right people through shared interests…
real friendships will happen. Just slower than you expected.
