Chhattisgarh: Security forces hunt down 8 Naxals in Bijapur; search ops underway

In a major crackdown on extremists, security forces killed 8 Naxals in Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada since May 23. A fierce gun battle broke out between security forces and Naxalites ahead of the sixth phase of Lok Sabha Polls 2024. Based on inputs, DRG and STF launched coordinated search ops in the area, which later turned into an encounter. Chhattisgarh CM Vishnu Deo Sai congratulated security forces, highlighting the government’s commitment to putting an end to Naxalism. Earlier on April 16, as many as 29 Naxals were gunned down in a massive encounter in Chhattisgarh Kanker. Later, Home Minister Amit Shah on April 17 said that “Naxalism will be uprooted from the country”. Meanwhile, massive encounters are still underway in the area, and more updates will follow.
