COVID-19: Why are so many asked to self isolate?

COVID-19 cases have been rising since restrictions began to ease, and they expect to continue to possibly 100,000 by August.

Many have been pinged and told to self-isolate for being in contact with someone who has COVID.

But what does this mean after the July 19th 'freedom day' and for those who can't get their second jab by August 16th?
