The Status Cymbal - 09 - 'Takin' My Time'

The Status Cymbal, originally named Warner, Porter and Warner, is a trio from Athens, Georgia, consisting of Florence Warner, her brother Byron Warner, and Tom Porter. Their only album, "In the Morning - The Status Cymbal" was released in 1968 on RCA Victor Records, LSP 3993. Elvis Presley's record producer, Felton Jarvis was the producer for this album. All tracks were written by group member, Tom Porter, with the exception of side one, cut five, "Lovin' Day", which Porter co-wrote with Donna McBride. I have owned two copies of this album since its release in 1968. One copy was never opened until now! In the research I've done regarding The Status Cymbal, most web sites call this music "Sunshine Pop". In my own very humble opinion, I would go so far as to liken the sound of the Status Cymbal to the pop group, "The Mamas and the Papas". I have never understood why The Status Cymbal's album never caught on in America. Perhaps it was poor record promotion by RCA Records. Florence Warner went on to attain success as a solo artist. She also became America's most sought-after commercial jingle singer during the 1980s. Florence recorded TV commercial jingles for Sprite Soft Drinks, Burger King, Michelob, V-8, Starburst Fruit Chews, Dow Chemical and my personal favorite series, "Hello News", produced by Gari Communications.
