A digital pioneer in conservation, Dr SK Srivastava has transformed how Gujarat manages forests and wildlife with technology.
A 1996 batch Indian Forest service (IFS) officer, he is currently Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Research & Training), Gujarat. He received the “Best Use of Technology” award at the Eco Warrior Awards 2025 for his innovative digital work. He created a 24x7 Wildlife Helpline (8320002000) at zero cost, allowing instant access to maps, wardens’ contacts, and emergency help. He launched the Snake Rescuer App, linking citizens with certified rescuers and using OTP handovers for safe reptile rescues. He mapped over 1,000 bird rescue centers during Gujarat’s annual Karuna Abhiyan, easing citizen efforts to save birds during kite season. He managed the ₹1,000 crore PERG Project using only Google Sheets and QGIS - saving crores & enabling real-time data access. He digitized First Offence Reports and patrolling, cutting case resolution to 43 days and clearing over 6,000 cases. He democratized GIS by giving officers mobile access to NDVI, slope analysis, and mapping, ending GIS experts’ monopoly. His work created a lasting legacy of transparency, digital efficiency, and community conservation in the Gujarat Forest Department.
