Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma defends the new Beef Law | Newshour Debate

On The Newshour Debate, with Navika Kumar, we discuss the Cattle bill Controversy with Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma. The draft Assam Cattle Preservation Bill, 2021 has ben introduced in the state assembly to regulate slaughter, consumption, and transportation of cattle, even as the Opposition MLAs staged a walkout over price rise on the first day of the budget session. After the Bill gets the nod of the assembly, sale, offer, or exposure of beef will be prohibited in predominantly inhabited areas by Hindu, Jain, Sikh, and other non-beef-eating communities. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chief Minister, Assam, says, "When we introduce this law (Cattle Preservation Bill), it will stop beef consumption in the cosmopolitan areas of Assam".
