Frescobaldi / Antonio Janigro / Eugenio Bagnoli, 1954: Toccata (arr., Gaspar Cassadó)

Antonio Janigro (1918-1989) and Eugenio Bagnoli perform Frecobaldi's Toccata, as arranged (according to the information on the reverse side of the LP jacket) for piano and cello by the Spanish cellist and composer Gaspar Cassadó (1897-1966).

(In fact the composition is that of Cassadó, composed in 1925. More information about how the hoax was debunked is here: http://www.cello.org/Newsletter/Articles/cassado/chapter2.htm )

I created this video from the LP that is shown above, issued in 1954 on the Westminster label, serial number WL 5243.

There are three movements in this work -- Grave, Allegro, and Giusto.

At the close of the video are some images from the reverse side of the LP jacket, with a brief biographical sketch of Janigro and a concise discussion of the Toccata, complete with the claim that the work was originally that of Frescobaldi.
