Mary Ann Mantell was an English fossil collector and lithographic artist, born in 1795. She is credited with discovering the fossilized teeth of Iguanodon, one of the first known dinosaurs, in 1822—a significant milestone in the history of paleontology. She contributed greatly to her husband Gideon Mantell’s fossil research through her detailed illustrations. Over time, their relationship deteriorated, and her contributions were largely overlooked. However, today, Mary Ann Mantell is recognized as one of the pioneering women in science. She passed away in 1869.
