KEY TO LOVE Guitar Cover :: Blues Breakers John Mayall with Eric Clapton

This is the second version of ‘Key to Love’ that I have uploaded. When I listened back to the first one I thought the sound of the solo was a bit lame, so I tried overdubbing it (instead of doing everything in one take) then playing around with the settings in Garageband.

I used the ‘crunch’ and ‘Heartbroken’ tones with the ‘Vintage British Head’, and for the cab used the ‘British 1 x 12’. This gets nearer the ballpark than the one I used previously, which was the ‘British Blues 2 x 12’ (I used that set-up for ‘Hideaway’).

In addition to overdubbing the solo itself, I doubled up the open B string (which is played with a B on the A string at the 2nd fret) that ends the verse and comes right before the opening bend in the 12th position. It sounds to me like they might have done that on the record.
