Lego Technic ADT 5 - Automatic Shifting with Linear Torque Detection

Several automatic gearboxes featuring both back-end (prototype 1) and front-end (prototype 2) linear torque detection. An opposing spring-worm pair is used to detect resistance on the 8t driven gear. A sliding pulley wheel (with modified frictionless axle hole) functions as a custom transmission ring shifter. This requires less than one stud of linear motion, which most springs are able to achieve. Front-end torque detection allows faster output speeds, but fails to shift under sudden high load because output must turn while shifting.

*the spring used is not an official Lego part; it is replaceable with a Lego shock absorber
