Since I launched this project, a few of you have asked me why I bother to hike with night vision instead of a headlamp. The answer? 𝗜𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻.

On a very basic level, the brilliant beam of white light from a torch that allows the vast majority of us to navigate effectively in the dark also violently severs us from that same nighttime environment - creating a literal photonic barrier between you and the diverse nocturnal biome around you.

Comparatively, hiking with NODS allows you to become part of the environment you’re traversing rather than being a separate entity that exists outside of it - which over time, is a profoundly meditative experience compared to the tunnel vision most of us are probably used to.

It’s not necessarily faster, and It’s not easier.
But if you want to see the world at night the way it really is - wild, untouched, and ancient...

...you’re going to have to turn your light off first.
