Part of your response to receiving the mercies of God (Romans 12:1-2) is to live worshipfully and actively amongst the people of God (His Church). In Romans 12:3-8, the Apostle Paul gives three principles which govern our responsibility in the local church. He commands us to think of ourselves with humility, to understand our unique roles, and to exercise our spiritual gifting earnestly and enthusiastically.
