ON THE RECORD: Companies behaving badly in South Africa

It's a Thursday which means we've set the next half hour aside for an in-depth discussion. It's time for ON THE RECORD at eight.
Tonight we're asking what can be done about companies behaving badly in South Africa. It seems that not a week goes by without another firm exposed for dodgy dealings. The crash of Steinhoff shares has been labelled the biggest corporate scandal in South African history. And some of the evidence points to fraud.
But will anyone be held to account? Many scandals involve global companies operating in this country. Do they think they will get away scot-free? Some have even been accused of facilitating state capture.
Bell Pottinger failed when it emerged the company was being paid by the Guptas and had created bots that became social media lynch-mobs against targets accused of being part of White Monopoly Capital. KPMG lost clients after it was accused of facilitating state capture through the poor auditing of Gupta-linked accounts and by being behind the rogue unit report that was used against Minister Pravin Gordhan. Since then there have been scandals involving Mckinsey and Company, SAP and Bain. The JSE says it's responding to a range of corporate scandals, speculation, and innuendo and is embarking on a public consultation process around possible changes to regulation. To discuss we're joined by the CEO of the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, Nicky Newton-King, CEO of Pan African Investment and Research Services, Iraj Abedian and Editor of the Financial Mail, Rob Rose.
