PINK1 Activation Improves Mitochondrial Function in Parkinson’s #ADPD2026
At ADPD 2026, Gabriella Fiorino from the Mayo Clinic presents research exploring how activation of the kinase PINK1 influences mitochondrial function and neuronal resilience in Parkinson’s disease.
Using iPSC derived cells and animal models, this study examines how increased PINK1 activity affects mitochondrial health, cellular survival, and neurodegeneration related pathways. The findings show improved mitochondrial function and enhanced resilience in neuronal systems.
This work highlights the role of mitochondrial quality control in Parkinson’s disease and supports targeting PINK1 as a potential therapeutic strategy.
