Global Water Dance - Israel

On June 25th, 2011 at 17:00, Friends of the Earth, Middle East (FoEME) and Global Water Dances will join together in a community engaged dance performance on the banks of the Jordan River, in Yardenit (http://www.biblewalks.com/Sites/yardenit.html).

Young dancers and performers will sing the Jordan River Song, created by Israeli, Palestinian and Jordanian youth from the Good Neighbor's Path, a project developed by FoEME to raise public awareness of shared water and environment concerns of the communities. The day culminates in the Global Water Dances, and a flashmob dance performance produced locally and locally choreographed.

The Lower Jordan River is a rich natural and cultural heritage, whose symbolic value holds meaning and importance to three of the world's major religions. Over 98% of the Jordan River's historical flow is now being diverted by Israel, Syria and Jordan for domestic and agricultural use.

The Global Water Dances, www.globalwaterdances.org, are a world-wide event that brings awareness to water issues through the art of dance. Performances begin in the South Pacific and roll westward across time zones ending up in China. Over 33 countries are participating, including Israel and Egypt.
