Why is India's Population so Big?

In fact, India India has over 16% of the world’s population yet only 2.4% of the world’s landmass. The world has 196 countries yet 36% of the world’s population lives in either China or India.

Well, if you asked most people who know a thing or two about India they would probably tell you that India’s population is so huge because of things like poverty or other social and economic issues. This is true, and we’ll get to that shortly, but there’s actually more to the story, and it starts thousands of years ago, long before modern-day social and economic issues.

In 1900 India had a population of approximately 238 million people. By 1950 it had grown to 361 million and by 2001 it had reached a whopping 1 million people! To give you some perspective, the population of the United Kingdom today is just over 66 million, the population of Germany is 83 million and the population of the United State is 328 million.
