Treasure Island - DISNEY THIS DAY - April 8, 1974

Treasure Island opens at Walt Disney World on this day in 1974. It was an island near the Contemporary Resort that featured wildlife and a pirate theme. The island was renamed Discovery Island and was closed on April 8th, 1999, but the name would serve as inspiration for part of Disney's Animal Kingdom.
