Bridge Technology Series: Improving Inspection Access at Segmental Bridge Abutments

Post-tensioning tendon anchorages in concrete segmental bridges, as commonly detailed, are difficult to access for inspection by non-destructive evaluation (NDE) technology. This video presents the post-tensioning details in end spans of bridges built using the span-by-span method of construction; shows the access difficulties; and presents modified details for the bridge that include an abutment with a post-tensioning tendon inspection chamber.
